Beginning in March 2021, the Anti-Racism Initiative (ARI) newsletter was released on a bi-weekly basis in an effort to connect Loyola students, staff, and faculty. The newsletter's aim was to educate about anti-racism and update members of our community on the work of the Anti-Racism Initiative's strategy teams.
Our last newsletter provided a summary of the roundtable working sessions hosted by the Office of Institutional Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) last spring. This summer, we have been busy putting into motion what we have learned from you all about what you need from our office and the broader Loyola community. As a result, you will see a lot of exciting changes this fall, starting with our new monthly READI (Racial Justice, Equity, Anti-Racism, Diversity, and Inclusive Excellence)Newsletter. This newsletter will replace the ARI newsletters and will be focused on highlighting issues of social justice, lifting up stories from our community of people doing great social justice work aligned to our mission, and resources we think will be helpful as we continue on our personal transformational journeys. Stay tuned for our first issue in October! So, although you won’t hear from the ARI, we are excited to move forward with a more institutionalized approach to anti-racism through the Office of IDEI. A huge thank you to the ARI Advisory Committee for their leadership over the last two years in setting this work in motion and setting the Office of IDEI on solid strategic ground for the work ahead. Anti-racism work remains vital and urgent. This is why strategies from the ARI will be heavily incorporated into our office’s larger strategic plan as the ARI shifts to take a new form in our office's work. I hope you continue to read ournewsletters moving forward and stay engaged in the conversation! You can also stay engaged with us on our new @LoyolaDiversity Twitter and Instagram accounts for updates from our office and to let us know about what matters most to you. This week’s newsletter announces the mission and vision of the new Office of Institutional DEI. This is a mission that we’re extremely proud of and we look forward to collaborating with you all to bring this to life. Take care, Amy Nelson Christensen, PhD, NCSP Executive Director of Strategic Planning and Institutional Change, Office of Institutional DEI, and Clinical Assistant Professor
